INTRODUCTION

The Quincy Public Schools is committed to providing the school community with education, activities and opportunities that enhance the development of lifelong wellness practices.

Public Law 108-265, The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act enacted by Congress in 2004*, required that all school districts participating in federally funded Child Nutrition Programs (including school breakfast and lunch) to establish a local wellness policy.

The School Committee approved the Quincy Public Schools Wellness Policy* in June, 2006.  The policy statement, its goals, and its guidelines are meant to address the nutritional, emotional, physical, and social aspects of wellness, and to promote the healthy practices that lifelong wellness requires.

The wellness policy requires the establishment of a wellness team at each elementary, middle and high school and at the system level.  The system level Wellness team oversees, coordinates and communicates with the school teams.  This webpage has been developed by the System Wellness Task Team for our school communities to help explain the requirements of the policy and to offer suggestions to school teams to help them implement and follow the policy, and to update schools and families with current wellness initiatives.
