Message from the Superintendent

superintendent of schoolsOur mission is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for children to achieve their individual maximum potential. Our desire is to develop students who persevere in their studies, take responsibility for their choices, and are honest in their character. We seek to equip the students with the necessary skills to thrive as productive workers and committed citizens, and to meet the challenge of change in a global community. We strive to help children discover and explore their gifts and talents, and to value and respect each other's uniqueness.

In order to accomplish our mission, staff, parents and students must work in a collaboration of effort and trust with open communication. Our success will be measured by our students who exemplify a lifelong love of learning.

We strongly believe that the Quincy Public Schools is a school system and learning community that functions with cohesive and unified goals that are understood and shared by all stakeholders. All areas of the school system consistently communicate, collaborate, and cooperate in order to provide the most effective, safe and nurturing environment in which children and young people may grow and learn. We have a long tradition of educational quality and we pride ourselves on being a learner responsive school system. The Quincy Public Schools embrace the challenge of the future while relying upon the foundation of our value rich tradition of excellence.

About Our District

Public education is strongly supported in Quincy for its all-important role in both the development of individuals as citizens and as productive members of the local and regional economy. The Quincy Public Schools possess a long-standing tradition for innovative curriculum and excellence in public education.

Quincy Public Schools is comprised of 11 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools, a center for technical education, an early childhood center and a comprehensive extended and continuing education program.

Students attend schools based on neighborhood areas.  Our street directory provides the boundary area information for specific elementary, middle and high schools. Enrollment in Quincy Public Schools varies depending upon the school building. Buildings house regular school programs, system wide programs, and utilize space to meet the changing student needs and demographics.

Low class size has been a priority of the Quincy School Committee. Many elementary schools enjoy enrollment and staffing ratios that yield just under 20 students for every teacher. Increases in staffing, addition of new classrooms, reopening of closed schools and new construction have combined to hold student staff ratios consistent. The student staffing ratio at the middle and high school levels continues to meet the maximum 25 to 1 ratio approved by the Quincy School Committee.

In addition to our programs during the school day we offer a variety of additional educational opportunities before and after school, on Saturdays and during the summer. These programs are organized throughout the year as part of Fall Scene, Winter School, and Summer Scene.  These opportunities provide both enrichment and remedial instruction to meet the individual needs of all of our students.

Quincy also has private educational resources which further contributes to an abundance of learning opportunities close to home for Quincy residents.
