Substitute Teachers

Substitute Teachers (all subjects - all levels) candidates should complete the following forms:

Return the completed forms in person to the Office of the Assistant Superintendent located at the N.A.G.E. Building, 159 Burgin Parkway, 3rd floor, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Along with the completed forms, please bring with you the following:

  • Proof of your degree
  • A state-issued driver's license or state-issued I.D. card with a photograph
  • An original social security card OR a birth certificate issued by the state, country, or municipal authority bearing a seal or other certification
  • In lieu of #2 and #3 you may bring in a United States Passport OR Certification of United States Citizenship OR a Certificate of Naturalization.

The above positions require at least an Associate's Degree or the equivalent, although a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.  For further information, please call Ann Adams at 617-984-8940.

Tutors

Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree.  This is hourly work on an as-needed basis, and is generally paid at $28.35 per hour.  Hours may be during the school day or after school.  If you are interested please call one or more of the following:

What is the Quincy Public Schools teacher pay scale?

For academic 2007-08, the minimum annual teacher's salary is $37,387. The minimum annual rate for a teacher with a Master's Degree is $41,406. It is $44,976 for a teacher with a Master's Degree plus 30 graduate credits. The maximum salary for a teacher with a Bachelor's Degree is $59,968. The Master's Degree maximum is $66,036. Master's Degree plus 30 maximum is $72,104. A Quincy Public School teacher who has a Doctorate and 12 plus years of service will earn $73,889 in academic 2007-08. 

What insurance benefits are Quincy Public Schools teachers eligible for?

Any permanent teacher at half-time or higher is eligible for Harvard Pilgrim Health Coverage and Delta Dental Insurance. The City of Quincy pays for 85% of the H.M.O. Health Insurance plan, and 50% of all dental insurance premiums.

What sick leave and personal leave apply to our teachers?

The annual sick leave allotment is 15 days for a full-time teacher. Unused sick leave accumulates without limit. Teachers may also use up to 2 days of paid personal leave to care for pressing personal business that cannot be addressed outside the school day.

What is the hiring process for teachers in Quincy?

Please mail a copy of your resume, a brief cover letter indicating the position of interest along with a copy of your Massachusetts Department of  Elementary and Secondary Education License(s) to the: Office of Human Resources, 70 Coddington Street, Quincy, MA  02169.    

The Director of Human Resources will forward appropriate resumes to principals whose schools have vacancies. Principals will screen applicants, contact candidates, coordinate interviews, and recommend appointment.

Must I substitute teach before I'll be considered for a contract?

No, but it is a wonderful way to become known by principals and to learn more about our school system!

What first steps should I take toward employment in the Quincy Public Schools?

  • Take and pass all necessary parts of the Massachusetts Teacher’s Test. (MTEL)
  • Apply for a Massachusetts Teacher’s License
  • Send a resume' to the Human Resources Office
  • If possible, try to do your student teaching in the Quincy Public Schools
