Principal’s Report

Coat Drive

Over 50 coats will be donated to Quincy Crisis Center; fifth grade will deliver next week.

Read Across America

Miss Prevost will chair upcoming activities.

Lunar New Year Celebration

A wonderful show for the students – held today, well attended by families.

Parking/Dismissal/Maintenance

Elevator is broken and will be fixed in the next couple of weeks.

Funding has been granted by the School Committee for the chairs for the media center.

Parking continues to be an issue; there is absolutely no parking at the playground area from Glover Avenue.  Parents in attendance were encouraged to spread the word to other families.  This announcement was also in the newsletter and translated.

For indoor dismissal, families can use the gym door; it’s important to use the school yard side entrance and to keep the dismissal at the dumpster door at a minimum (for the handicap van, etc.)

Mrs. Palmer will call Officer Ma to oversee and reinforce morning drop-off at Glover Avenue.

Assistant Principal’s Report

Assessment

Winter benchmarking for grades K-5 has recently finished.  ILT meetings were held last week with the classroom teachers and all interventionists.  Instructional groupings are currently being finalized with the interventionists.

Treasurer’s Report

A detailed report was looked at; it was determined that field trips are covered for the school year.

New Business

Parker Shirts

We will be going with J. M. Clothing; best prices around.  He also will have capacity to do water bottles, pens, pencils, etc.   For now we will put an order in for tee-shirts, long sleeve shirts, and magnets.

Discussed the idea of colors for the shirts – survey the students to decide the color (maroon, navy, red, hunter green); students will have the opportunity to vote next week at lunch.

Will do an order form for pre-sales and can also order more to sell at the school store and parent report card conferences – order form will be out as we return from Feb. vacation.

Mrs. Tobin will chair this fundraiser.

Instant Alert

Alert will continue to be used as the snow chain and to transmit any possible emergency notices.

The idea was brought up of using a translator to record a voice recording of a snow cancellation.

Translator

A parent brought up the idea of using some of the PTO funds to pay translators on staff a stipend to translate important notices, etc.   The school will look at the amount of paperwork that would need to be translated and decide on an appropriate stipend.

School Council

Last year’s school council project was the school improvement survey.   We are awaiting these surveys scanned to further review and analyze.

Meetings have not been held this year for the School Council.

Possible Spending Ideas

Children’s programs coming to the school – (i.e. storyteller was seen at the JFK Library by a parent)

Food Play or other nutritional program – keeping on the lines with the healthy snacks

Media Center

Mrs. Tella, our media specialist, is currently out and will be out for an extended period of time.  Mrs. Palmer will look into getting books checked out regularly by Mrs. Tella’s coverage.

Classroom Funding Opportunity

Donorschoose.org.  Mrs. Palmer will put this in the staff weekly newsletter.  Staff would be able to apply for classroom materials, etc. through writing a grant.
