8:15 a.m. - 11:55 a.m. on Tuesday. If your child comes to school after
8:15 a.m., please enter through the main door and check in the office.
This procedure is necessary because if a student has been marked absent
by a classroom teacher, the office staff may change it to a tardy.
What is the procedure for dismissal
changes?
If you find it necessary to change
your child's dismissal plans, please send a note to the teacher in the
morning. If an emergency situation arises, please call the office. If we
do not receive a note or an emergency call, we will follow the usual dismissal
procedures.
How do you report a student absent?
Please call the school at 984-8781
to report a student absent. If voice mail is on leave the student's name
and grade. When your child returns to school, please send a note to your
child's teacher explaining the nature of the absence. This procedure in
a legal requirement of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
What are the safety procedures for
your school?
Visitors: All parents and visitors
need to enter through the main school door, sign in at the office, and
obtain a visitor's badge. This procedure is in accordance with school system
regulations that we know who is in the school at all times.
Walkers: Use crosswalks
at all times. Students are walked in line by staff to the edge of the driveway
where some parents are waiting to pick up their children: the remainder
of the students continue to walk in line with staff to the crosswalk where
our crossing guard is waiting.
Buses: Only buses use circular
driveway.
Private cars: In the morning,
students should be let off at the drop-off sign on Fenno Street. At dismissal
time, parents need to tell children where they will be waiting. Please
note: No cars in circular driveway during entering (8:00 - 8:30) and dismissal
(2:15 - 2:45) times.
What is the best way to contact
a teacher or staff member?
If you want to schedule a time to talk
with a teacher or staff member, please contact the staff member and a meeting
will be arranged. Also, all staff members are available to speak with you
on the phone if that is more convenient for you. Just call the school office,
leave a message for the particular staff member and a return call will
follow as soon as possible.
What is the homework policy?
To reinforce basic skills, students
in grades 1-3 receive homework packets at the beginning of each week. Packets
are due on Friday. In addition, students who wish to complete enrichment or
challenge work are provided with that option. In an effort to provide students
with more responsibilities as a learner, students of grades 4 and 5 are
expected to use note-taking skills to copy assignments. The assignments for
grades 4 and 5
are generally due the next day.
Do you serve breakfast?

About Us
Beechwood
Knoll Elementary School reopened its doors in September, 1995, after being closed for
several years. The renovated original structure and the new addition house
approximately 365 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Situated on a salt
marsh, Beechwood students use the natural environment - the marsh, a creek, a brook, and
the bay - for environmental habitat studies. All classrooms and the library/
technology center have full Internet access.

Parents
Our school has a thriving PTO. Generally, the PTO raises funds to support and enrich education at our school as well as provides out-of-school activities and events for families. Sponsoring field trips and special class projects, purchasing library books for the Sawyer Center and classroom collections, and supporting the Arts at BKS are several examples of how our PTO enhances our school. Family events may include a fall festival, ice-skating parties, a variety show, a family dance, or picnic and games. In an effort to expand involvement, PTO meetings are scheduled monthly either in the morning or evening. Click here to visit Citywide Parents' Council Website www.quincycitywideparentscouncil.org

Adopt-a- Book Program
The Sawyer Center is our Media Center. Most of our library's collection is due to the generosity of Althea P. Sawyer. The Sawyer Center always needs books to add to our library. Our Adopt-A-Book program, run by our Media Specialist Donna Dunbar, lets you to either choose a book which is inscribed with the name of the donor. This is a wonderful gift or remembrance for a friend, relative, or teacher. Children love to see their name or their family name in a book borrowed from the library. Contact Ms. Dunbar for more information at 617-984-8781.
