Questions

How can I register my child for the Preschool Program?

The preschool program is both state and federally funded. It is designed to service at-risk children in the community. When a parent calls to register their child their name and the child’s name is put on a list for a screening date in the spring. The screening is done by the pre-school teachers using the Denver Developmental Test and at the same time the guidance counselor does a social assessment with the parent. Each class has a maximum of 15 students of which 7 have special needs. The remaining slots are divided between regular ed and students for whom English is their second language.  Visit our Preschool page for more infomation.

How can my child be placed in the All Day Kindergarten?

Since the Early Childhood Center is a Title I school, funds have been used to provide two all day kindergartens. Students are selected based on a point system. Considerations include results of the Denver Developmental Test, date of birth, special needs, and English as a second language. A list is then developed and students with the greater number of points are offered a placement in the all day program. As with the pre-school, class size is limited to 15 students.

Do you offer an after school program?

There is no after school program at the Early Childhood Center. However children who are in the after school program at Lincoln-Hancock are transported by bus. Students who attend other after school programs such as the YMCA, South Shore Day Care, Beechwood By the Bay, or the Educational Extension are transported by vans supplied by the provider. Contact phone numbers for these programs can be obtained by calling the school office.

About Us

adc early childhood center

The Amelio Della Chiesa Early Childhood Center opened in March of 1994, on the site of the former Lincoln Elementary School in southwest Quincy. We hold certification from the National Association of Educators of Young Children. The Early Childhood Center (E.C.C.), which services approximately 200 three to six year olds, is unique in that it is the only E.C.C. in the Quincy Public School System. There are six half-day integrated pre-school classes, six all-day kindergarten classes which includes one transitional kindergarten and three Development Learning pre-school classes.  We celebrate that we are a culturally diverse community and this is incorporated into our curricula at every opportunity.

In addition to twelve classrooms this bright, cheerful and semi opened spaced school building also has a Discovery/Media Center, Motor Room, Cafeteria/Gymnasium in addition to nursing, guidance and administrative offices. We have a playground designed to facilitate the motor needs of young children. In an effort to foster good community relations the Ward Four Community Room is housed at the E.C.C. in addition to community events this room is utilized by the staff and children for special presentations.

A unique component of the Center is the Early Childhood Integrated Pre-school Program which provides high quality opportunities for sixty at risk children whose abilities range from typically developing to identified special needs, and who come from diverse cultural, linguistic and economic backgrounds. Funding sources for the implementation of this program include Title I federal funds, the Massachusetts Early Childhood Partnership Grant, the Massachusetts Early Childhood Special Allocation and the Quincy Public Schools. In addition we have a Developmental Learning Center which services preschool students with a diagnosis of pervasive development disorder.

We are designated as a Title I school allowing us to provide support services in both guidance and reading.  We also participate in the federal breakfast and lunch program. Other services are provided by our special needs teacher, nurse, physical therapist, speech pathologist and occupational therapist.

Message from the Principal

Welcome to the Amelio Della Chiesa Early Childhood Center. This unique Quincy school is one of the few public schools on the South Shore devoted to the education and development of the young child from pre-school through kindergarten.  I work in a truly nurturing environment that services approximately 200 young children. I share a principalship with the Lincoln-Hancock Community School which this school feeds into for grades one through five.

I know first hand what a wonderful start these young people experience. If you look into their faces you will see a bright future on the horizon. Please come and see for yourself.

Parents

Who we are and what we do:

We are the Lincoln Hancock / Della Chiesa Parent Teacher Council. We are a proactive organization which provides the things at our school that enhance our children's education. We also serve as a united voice to the city for concerns that affect our school, both by ourselves and in conjunction with the City Wide Parents Council.

Meetings:

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month in the Della Chiesa All Purpose Room at 7:00 P. M. We always provide refreshments and snacks as well as door prizes for the attendees. We encourage attendance at these meetings, as this is were all policies decisions are made by a majority vote of those parents and teachers in attendance.

Volunteers and Events:

There are many opportunities at both schools for parents who wish to volunteer their time. We have two coordinators who can help find volunteer opportunities both in and out of the classrooms, fund raisers, book fair, school pictures, family events, etc...
