WORK-BASED LEARNING - STANDARD
The Work-Based Learning program provides
work-based learning opportunities that are closely coordinated with
classroom learning and that can assist students to develop the broad
skills and competencies needed in the workplace, not just for a first
job or a specific occupation, but for a lifelong career. The program
supports the fundamentals of the Common Core of Learning and the Common
Chapters of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks including:
- Thinking and Communicating
- Gaining and Applying Knowledge
- Working and Contributing
Eligibility criteria:
- The student must be in grade 11 or
grade 12.
- The student must pass the Mass.
comprehensive Assessment Test in all areas in grade 10.
- The employment must be during school
hours.
- The placement must familiarize
students with career options, requirements and marketable skills
needed for employment and workplace literacy.
The Structure of the Program:
- Before obtaining employment and being
placed, the student must complete a career seminar which assists the
student in assessing their interests and talents, preparing for the
application and interview process, and developing the work readiness
skills to obtain and keep a job.
- The student will begin and maintain a
career portfolio throughout the experience.
