Text Box: On March 3, 2008, Parker School “kicked off” a month-long celebration of reading in honor of our favorite author - Dr. Seuss!  Guest readers visited classrooms and read stories to our students, involving the wider community in our celebration.  Mayor Koch read “Horton Hears A Who” to our third graders, earning rave reviews!
In our month-long project, our students were challenged to work together to “Read Across America,” by meeting grade levelreading goals, in hopes of winning the GRAND PRIZE—a field trip to the movies to see the new movie: “Horton Hears a Who.”
Each minute of reading converted to one mile as we worked together to reach our goal of logging enough
Text Box: reading minutes to cover the approximately 3000 miles from Massachusetts to California.   Students logged their reading on red, white and blue book icons, which were displayed around a United States map in the hallway outside the office - and a small bus made its way across the country to show their progress.
Last Friday, at our March assembly, the names of the classes in which every child reached his/her reading goal were put in a hat (a Dr. Seuss hat of course), and Room 15 won the  prize.  They will  travel by bus to the movie theatre for the movie, and -as promised - Mayor Koch will buy the popcorn!  (Thank you Mayor Koch!)

Math MCAS will begin in early May.

Text Box: Our school day begins promptly at 8:15, with the Pledge of Allegiance in the school yard—and the learning begins right away.  When your child is tardy, they start their day in an unorganized way, having to “catch up” before they begin the day.  Please give your child every chance for success each day by making every effort to get your child to school before the 8:15 bell.  But if you are running late, please remember that children who arrive after the bell need to be escorted to the office by a parent, and signed in.  Late passes will be given to students, and staff will walk little ones to classrooms.  Daily routines in the school day are established and implemented more smoothly for all students if parents give their farewell hugs to late arrivals in the office.  As always, thank you for your help, and for working with us to provide the very best education possible for all of our students!!

A special thank you goes to Ms. Nicole Prevost, one of our third grade teachers, who did a wonderful job coordinating this school-wide event.  Great job, Nicole!
