Parker PTO Minutes (10/6/09 Meeting):
President’s Report:
· City-wide PTO: If anyone interested in representing Parker, please let Sue Maloney know.
· Box-Tops fundraiser: Need parent to organize and coordinate collection; box tops get sent in twice a year (Fall & Spring). Ms. Goodwin is available to help. Last year, raised $411.00
· Open-House sign-up: Those interested in exploring Children’s Programs, let Sue Maloney know
· Fundraisers: Yankee Candle: Fall; Children’s Artwork : Spring
Principal’s Report:
· School year off to a good start.
· First Assembly: October 30th (5th graders will host)
· Assemblies are held: 1pm last Friday of each month with different grades hosting; parents always welcome; teachers will be in touch if it is your child’s grade that is hosting
· --Attendance awards, Golden Rule Awards etc given during assemblies; birthdays recognized—can donate a book to media center in honor of child’s birthday
· 21st Century programs: Mrs. White and Mrs. Connolly are overseeing program; children start with homework and then have snack
Assistant Principal’s Report: Mrs. Moreira
· ILT Meetings in Progress: working with 4th graders reading in and out of the classroom; bring together all specialists and go over progress of each child with classroom teachers
Group Discussion:
· Harvest Dance: Friday, October 30th in Gym from 5pm—7pm: Come in costumes
· Last year, charged $3.00 admission or $5.00 including pizza & water; sold raffle tickets for theme baskets; had Gift Cards to bookstores as prizes for Costume Contest
· If willing to create a basket, please see Elena Tobin. Need water donations. Sue Maloney has a letter that can be used for donation requests
· Semira: will contact Balducci’s to inquire about special price for 20 pizza pies: Update: Balducci’s will deliver 20 pizzas at 5pm to the Gym. Providing a discount: Normal price per large cheese pie is $9.00 and Parker price is $6.50; Contacts: Angelo, Fabio or Janil.
· Elena: will contact DJ
· Decorating Trick or Treat bags may be a fun craft activity
· Meeting to organize Harvest Dance: October 22nd at 2:45pm Media Center
Other business:
· Need Room Mother for each classroom to serve as a liaison between parents and teacher. If volunteer in classroom, a CORI needs to be completed and is good for 3 years
· Consider: Pennies for Pets or Pennies for Patients program to involve children in fundraising for a cause
