Questions

What are the school hours?

The school day at Point Webster Middle School begins at 8:15 and ends at 2:30. Since school personnel are not available to supervise, students may not arrive at the building until 7:45.

What should I do if my child is absent?

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the school in the morning to report it. If we do not receive a call from you, the attendance clerk will try to call a parent/guardian at home or the work place. If no contact is made your child may be considered truant.

What if my child needs to be dismissed?

If you know ahead of time that your child is to be dismissed from school, please send in a note with your child indicating the time and reason.

What if my child is going to be late?

If your child is going to be late to school, a parental note is required explaining the tardiness. It is also expected that you indicate the time you expect your child to arrive at school. If a student enters school between 8:15 - 9:30 a.m. without a note he/she will be admitted to school and a note must be sent to school the next day. Students whose tardiness is unexcused may be kept after school. Students who are repeatedly tardy, may have a suspension hearing with a parent/guardian.

What if my child becomes ill at school?

Students, who are ill at home before school, should not be sent to school. If your child becomes ill at school and it is necessary for him/her to be dismissed, then the parent/guardian must make arrangements for him/her to be picked up. The School System does not permit students who are ill to walk home or take public transportation unless accompanied by an adult.

What is the homework policy?

Homework assignments differ, depending upon the student's ability, potential, and need. You are expected to complete assignments carefully in order to reinforce and enrich classroom learning experiences. Homework is assigned on a regular basis. It is usually discussed in class, collected, and graded within reasonable time for each student, normally within a week.A record is kept of homework grades and assignments completed. Students have reasonable notice of long term assignments. Time must be planned for these assignments.

Why do I need to send in contact information?

It is extremely important that the school has your home and work phone numbers on file, as well as a relative's or neighbor's, in case of an emergency. These telephone numbers will be kept strictly confidential upon request. Please update these phone numbers as necessary.

When are the early release days?

Dismissal is at 12:00 on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month.

Do you serve breakfast?

Breakfast is available every morning immediately before school starts at all schools in Quincy. Breakfast consists of a selection of cereals, muffins, bagels, peanut butter, cream cheese, fresh fruit, fruit juice and milk.

What does breakfast cost?

The cost for breakfast is 75 cents at middle schools. At the secondary level breakfast ala carte items are also available for purchase.  Students who are eligible for Free or Reduced price lunches are automatically eligible for free or reduced price breakfast. The cost for a reduced price breakfast is 25 cents. Click here more information on eligibility requirements for free and reduced lunch.

How much does lunch cost?

Middle School full-price student lunch is $1.75.   The cost for a reduced price lunch is 40 cents.  Milk is served with all lunches.  The cost of purchasing milk only is 30 cents and milk choices include 2%, 1%, and 1% chocolate.   Some lunches also include fruit juices in addition to the milk.

Academics

The middle school teachers have developed a syllabus for each of the courses that they teach.  These syllabi will provide an overview of the major topics that are covered in each course at each grade level, and these topics are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in each academic area.  In addition to the major topics, the syllabus contains a list of important text and learning materials, types of assessments that will be used, and a homework policy and grading policy. Partners

Quincy Public Schools are proud that leading businesses recognize the quality and innovation in our schools - and have made a commitment to helping our schools be the very best. Our Partnership Program allows businesses to bring their strengths directly to our students.  Each school has their own partner(s).  Please read about their programs below....

Quirk Auto Dealership

The Quirk Auto Dealerships support has allowed us to support our New Horizons for Youth After School Program. The contributions made it possible for us to purchase prizes as part of a rewards component of the program. Prizes were distributed during the New Horizon Holiday celebration for the students. An interesting component of the program included a “Shop With A Cop” experience with our community police officers at Wal – Mart.

Roche Brothers Supermarket

Roche Brothers also has been involved in the New Horizons Program. Roche Brothers has provided our students with gift certificates as part of the award component of the program. Roche Brothers also provided holiday sweets for our Holiday Celebration through the New Horizons Grant.

Dependable Cleaners

Dependable Cleaners has provided students with book covers, which help the students and school, maintain the quality of our textbooks. Dependable cleaned over 100 coats that were collected by members of our Student Council in our community service effort on behalf of “Coats for Kids”. They also cleaned a number of classroom flags for our school. Dependable Cleaners provided gift certificates helpful to our New Horizons Holiday Celebration.

Quincy Credit Union

For the last four years, Quincy Credit Union has partnered with Point Webster Middle School, in an effort to expand learning from the classroom into the community. During monthly Real Life Math activities, Point Webster students learn about bank security, identity theft prevention, how to apply for a bank account and write out a check, how to complete a withdrawal or deposit slip, calculating interest and monthly payments on a new car.  The school year wraps up with a celebration of either pizza or ice cream  party for students and staff.
