: Quincy High School (QHS) and English Second Language (ESL)

The WHat:
Add an ESL component to the existing Vocational Exploratory program

The WHen: September 2001 to Present

The WHere: Massachusetts’ second largest urban high school, Quincy USA

The WHy: Address the future employability of a rapidly increasing non-English speaking population

The HoW: Combine kinesthetic learning opportunities through a math/science, vocational /technology skills building exploratory program with English language learning strategies.

Grant ideas

Continue program through grades 10. 11 and 12 based upon the Plumbing Model.
Develop an Assessment Tool based on Participation
Develop Curriculum that includes Contests, Projects, Group/Pair Work.
Further develop multi-lingual trade specific vocabulary materials. see Graphic Arts.
Outreach: offer to ESL Adults through Evening School
Distance Learning offer to the community through Community Access TV
Encourage Outward Bound type Learning Adventure Experiences.
Include existing Programs and School Staff
Provide further ESL strategies and methods/materials
