ENGLISH

The English program strengthens and enriches communications skills including speaking, listening, observing, reading and writing for students of our comprehensive high school  Four years of English is compulsory in Quincy High School.  Since the immediate goals of our students could include trade vocations, college, business, or the military,  our program is varied enough to accomplish that delicate balance between adult-determined utilitarian education and the individual student's determination of what will be relevant for his or her future.  Click on a category below and explore the offerings of the Quincy High School English Department.

  SUMMER READING REQUIREMENTS GRADES 9 - 12

All students who have enrolled in any advanced level class grades 9 - 12, or who are college bound, 9th and 10th grades, will be required to read one (1) or more books each year during the summer vacation. The books to be read will be issued by the English Department. The students will sign out the books in June and return them in September. There will be testing of the summer reading within the first two weeks of school. The results of the testing will be part of the grade for the first term of that year.
