The Foreign Language Program at Quincy High School aims to develop the
students' ability to communicate in another language and gain an
understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Our program integrates
the Strands and Standards of the Massachusetts Foreign Languages
Framework in all languages, with learning activities appropriate to the
level of instruction. Included in the courses described is a variety of
co-curricular activities, such as use of the language laboratory,
audio-visual materials, College Board Achievement preparation (where
applicable), field trips, and other cultural experiences.
It should be noted that all Massachusetts state colleges/universities
require 2 years of high school foreign language study for admission.
Most private colleges/universities seek 3 or more years of preparation
in this area.
Prerequisites: A student must pass each year of a foreign
language before continuing into the next sequential course.
In order to continue study at the Honors level, a student must maintain
a final average of at least 75; at the Advanced level (if offered), a
final average of at least 80.
A student who achieves a final average of 90 or higher at the Standard
level may be eligible to move to the Honors level provided that
supplementary work is done during the summer to prepare for the higher
level. Teacher recommendation is required.
