WORK-BASED LEARNING

The Work-Based Learning program provides work-based learning opportunities that are closely coordinated with classroom learning and that can assist students to develop the broad skills and competencies needed in the workplace, not just for a first job or a specific occupation, but for a lifelong career. The program supports the fundamentals of the Common Core of Learning and the Common Chapters of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks including:



Eligibility criteria:

  1. The student must be in grade 11 or grade 12.
  2. The student must pass the Mass. comprehensive Assessment Test in all areas in grade 10.
  3. The employment must be during school hours.
  4. The placement must familiarize students with career options, requirements and marketable skills needed for employment and workplace literacy.

The Structure of the Program:

  1. Before obtaining employment and being placed, the student must complete a career seminar which assists the student in assessing their interests and talents, preparing for the application and interview process, and developing the work readiness skills to obtain and keep a job.
  2. The student will begin and maintain a career portfolio throughout the experience.
