Academics

Our middle school teachers have also developed a syllabus for each of the courses that they teach.  These syllabi will provide an overview of the major topics that are covered in each course at each grade level, and these topics are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in each academic area.  In addition to the major topics, the syllabus contains a list of important text and learning materials, types of assessments that will be used, and a homework policy and grading policy. Programs

Sterling Middle School recognizes that students learn in many different ways.  That is why we know how important learning outside the classroom can be to a student's education.  The writing that students do for the school newspaper helps to improve in-class writing skills.  The teamwork of volleyball applies to working together on group academic projects.  The language skills from the World Language Club exposes students to different cultures, not only building understanding and appreciation, but also preparing students for further language study.

We are proud to present a variety of programs to meet the diverse needs of our students and their families.

Arbella Insurance Company

Arbella Insurance Company has been a long-standing friend of Sterling Middle School. Arbella's generosity financed the outfitting of every classroom with computers and printers. Arbella continues to support us by providing needed money to fund workshops in leadership for our students. Recently Sterling participated in the Middle School Girls Summit, which focused on building leadership skills in young women.  Arbella instituted the Arbella Scholar Award at Sterling. This program recognizes the top student in grades 6, 7, & 8 with a United States Savings Bond and a school recognition ceremony. Also supported by the annual Arbella is the Edward J. Pettinelli Scholar-Athlete Award, which recognizes students who excel in academics as well as sports.  Arbella has been there for Sterling with strong academic and financial support. Their efforts have helped us to earn recognition from the Commonwealth as a Compass School leading the way to success for our students on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Achievement Test and in the future.
