About Us
The Wollaston School is a neighborhood elementary school for students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Despite being closed from 1982 to 1987, the Wollaston School has a long tradition of academic excellence that dates back to the early 1870's. The original Wollaston School stood diagonally across the street at what is now Safford Park. The present Wollaston School was built in 1913. The school and the surrounding area is named after Captain Richard Wollaston who established an early settlement in this area in 1624. We take great pride in both preserving our strong tradition and preparing our students to become self-fulfilling individuals, good citizens, and competent workers in the 21st century.

We utilize a problem solving, hands-on approach to learning that is both challenging and fun! We believe that every child deserves an enriched learning program. At Wollaston we strive to provide positive learning experiences which will contribute to everyone’s growth as individuals, citizens, and workers in a caring, collegial environment. Since we believe that everyone has a unique contribution to make, we encourage your participation in the learning process. You will have many, varied opportunities to become involved with our community of learners. We hope you will be able to take advantage of some of these opportunities.
The staff and I look forward to working cooperatively with you to enrich your childrens learning experience within our school and enlist your help in extending these experiences to your home and the wider community as well. Parents
Wollaston is fortunate to have an active and caring Parent Teacher Organization. Our students and their parents have benefited not only from the PTOs generosity in paying for software programs such as Claris Works for Kids, but also in being able to extend their learning experiences beyond the classroom by attending and participating in programs at local museums, theaters and other areas related to their studies. Because of the PTOs generous funding we can make these great things happen for our kids. In addition, parent volunteers have helped by sharing their learning through such projects as teaching art appreciation, supporting classroom activities, working with students on school beautification projects, organizing book fairs, pumpkin fairs, cookouts, and myriads of day to day activities.
