Congratulations to North Quincy art students Ira Habiba (‘23), Leo He (‘24), Ryan Setow (‘24), and Adeline Sun (‘23) who won regional recognition by the 2023 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in an award ceremony held on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Winning entries are recognized with Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention awards.

Ryan Setow claimed a Gold Key award with his entry “Frog Flower Shower,” putting his sculpture in consideration for national recognition. Ira Habiba earned a Silver Key award for her photograph, “Sleepy Stranger”; and Leo He and Adeline Sun garnered Honorable Mention awards: Leo for his photo, “Zenith” and Adeline for her work, “Sunkissed Days.”

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is a national program that has been recognizing talented young artists and writers in grades 7-12 since 1923. In Massachusetts, the competition is organized by the Boston Globe, in partnership with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The program is open to students from public, private, and home schools across the United States and provides a platform for young artists and writers to gain recognition for their work, build their portfolios, and connect with other creative young people.

The program accepts entries in a variety of categories, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, poetry, fiction, and journalism. Entries are judged by a panel of professional artists, writers, and educators based on creativity, technical skill, and originality.

Congratulations to our students for this prestigious recognition!
