Safety and Security Officer
Position Overview
The School Safety and Security Officer will perform his or her assigned duties under the direction of the Principal and the Director Security. These assigned duties shall be such that they will ensure the safety and security of all students and staff.
Duties
The following are basic duties of the Safety-Security Officer functions:
- Security Duties
a. Supervise specific areas of school buildings and/or property as required for security purposes.
b. Supervise activities of students in assigned areas.
c. Report on high risk situations or places.
d. In emergency situations, attempt to resolve the conflict, then notify the proper authority at this/her assigned school.
e. Work in collaboration with and cooperation with the Quincy Police Department to ensure safety of all students.
- Observation of and communication with students
a. Identify students with problems.
b. Learn major concerns and needs of students.
c. Discover general problem areas.
d. Report the results of observation with comments and recommendations to the principal.
- General Duties
a. Provide assistance to the Principal in matters of student attendance and behavior.
b. Files security reports as request.
c. Performs other related security duties.
Qualifications and Training

Must become certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and maintain certification.

Must have a high school diploma; a bachelor's degree is preferred. Must demonstrate command of the English language and written communication skills.

Is expected, after education and training, to understand statutory and constitutional requirements as they relate to search and seizure, probable cause, due process and other related matters.
Compensation
This position is for 182 school days, plus an additional 5 days, for a total of 187 work days per school year. Salary will be at Step One of the current agreement between the Quincy School Committee and the Quincy Public Schools Security Force Association. This is a unit position.
