Presence Matters at Quincy Public Schools

At Quincy Public Schools, we believe in keeping our community focused on learning. When students step away from their screens, we give them back something valuable: the chance to build real academic skills and everyday habits, like working well with others and staying focused on a task, that carry them into the workforce and their adult life.

Our new personal electronic device policy asks students in every grade to power down phones, smartwatches, and other devices from the start of the school day until dismissal, so the classroom remains a place for connection rather than distraction. Students turn off their devices and lock them in a school-issued pouch before entering the building. This gives every student the same chance to focus on teachers, classmates, and coursework without a screen pulling their attention away.

As we build this habit together, we ask families to help students plan for a device-free day: charge devices at home, leave them off once school starts, and reach the school directly if something urgent comes up. When students are fully present, without a phone in hand, they can focus on the people and lessons in front of them. Let's make this the year every student shows up present, in every sense of the word.
