Reach Program for Grades 4 & 5 Students

Reach is a school-based educational program for elementary students who demonstrate advanced learning potential.

Grade 4
The Reach Program for grade 4 takes place for 90 minutes, once per month, at all schools. Students are selected for grade 4 Reach if they are in the top 10% of students at their school, based on the most recent math and reading data. Eligibility is determined in the fall, following fall testing.

Grade 5
The Reach Program for grade 5 takes place once per week at all schools. Students are selected for grade 5 Reach if they are in the top 20% of students at their school, based on the most recent math and reading data. Eligibility is determined in the spring, following end-of-year testing.

Grades 6-8
Advanced coursework in grades 6-8 is not connected to the Reach Program. For grades 6-8, advanced courses are offered in mathematics, science, and English language arts at all of our middle schools. Students can be enrolled in advanced level for one, two, or three of those subjects. Eligibility will be determined by classroom performance in those subjects in 5th grade, along with NWEA MAP scores, and teacher recommendations. Parents are encouraged to discuss this possibility with their student's 5th-grade teachers. In addition, the top 20% of grade 5 students in the district, based on the most recent math and reading data, take the Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP) subtests in verbal and quantitative reasoning in March to determine eligibility for the Advanced Placement Center (APC) Program at Central Middle School.
