Dear Quincy Public Schools Community,

I’m writing today to share some very disturbing news about a school transportation incident that occurred yesterday, June 1, 2022.  As you may know, Quincy Public Schools provides transportation for approximately 1,200 students daily to and from school.  Just under 900 students are transported on Quincy Public Schools vans, mini-buses, and buses driven by Quincy Public Schools employees, with support from several outside transportation vendors for 300 students.

In the incident yesterday, an outside vendor vehicle containing a Quincy Public Schools student was involved in a minor accident with another vehicle.  Thankfully, neither the student or the drivers involved were injured.  When the Quincy Police Department arrived at the scene of the accident to assist, it was determined that the outside transportation vendor company driver was operating the vehicle while impaired and the driver was arrested at the scene.  Both the Quincy Police Department and the Quincy Public Schools have filed with the Department of Children & Families for an investigation of the incident.  I have also met with the owner of the outside transportation firm to ensure that this never happens again.

As always, I appreciate the response and support of the Quincy Police Department to the Quincy Public Schools community.  If you have concerns or questions about this incident, please contact me at 617-984-8701 or via email at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Kevin W. Mulvey, J.D.

Superintendent of Schools
