Dear Class of 2020 and Families,


We are excited to host the graduation ceremonies this weekend (NQHS on July 24 at 6:00 pm; QHS on July 25 at 10:00 am & 4:00 pm) and to share in the celebration as the members of the Class of 2020 receive their diplomas in front of family, friends, and staff.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making this a safe event.  At this point, all guests must have registered to attend, selected seats online, and received an email confirmation.   If these processes have not been completed, you are not in a position to attend the ceremony and you should contact the school immediately.

If a graduate or guest is feeling sick, exhibiting any of the following symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste of smell), or has potentially been exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, they may not attend the ceremony.  A potential exposure means having household contact or having close contact (within six feet) with an  individual with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 for a prolonged period of time (over 15 minutes) while the person is symptomatic or 48 hours before symptoms developed.

The following information outlines guidelines and protocols for the ceremony. Everyone in attendance must comply with these in order for us to hold an event that is fully compliant with health and safety recommendations.


GRADUATES

  • Arrive at the stadium 45 minutes prior to the ceremony.  
  •  Report to Welch Field, which is located directly behind Veterans Memorial Stadium on Southern Artery.
  • Check-in with the staff member at the gate and then report to a position on the field as directed. 
  • You must be wearing a mask or face covering and your cap and gown.
  • Graduates will be assembled in two groups and in alphabetical order within the groups (with some exceptions for Valedictorian, Salutatorian, class officers, and National Honor Society members). Once  assembled, graduates must remain in position and must maintain a distance of six feet from other graduates and staff members. No hugging or close contact for photos is allowed. 
  • No food or beverages may be brought to the ceremony.
  •  Cap Decoration:  Only the flat, top area of the mortar board may be decorated.  There may be nothing hanging down from any sides of the cap, with the exception of Quincy Public Schools-issued tassels.  Decorations must be flat on the surface of the cap; 3-D creations are prohibited.
  • When the ceremony begins, graduates will proceed on to the stadium field and to their seats, maintaining the six-foot distance throughout the processional.  Staff members will direct graduates to assigned seats on the field; seats will be placed six feet apart from others.
  • After all of the speeches are complete, we will present diplomas to each graduate.  Staff members will  direct you when to stand up and make your way to the diploma table.  When your name is called, you will approach the table and receive your diploma.  Mr. Taglieri  or Mr. Shaw will be there to ensure you receive the correct one. You will then be directed back to your row and seat. 

GUESTS

  •  Gates will open one hour prior to the scheduled start time. The ceremony will start promptly at the scheduled time.  Guests should use the assigned gate based on their seating selection when checking in.  Guests needing access to handicap parking or seating should contact the school before the ceremony.  Please note the recommended parking areas.  Also note that Central Middle School will not be available for guest parking.   •  Guests must show a printed or electronic copy of their seat/ticket confirmation and a photo ID at the gate.  They must also check-in by name.  All guest names must exactly match those provided during pre-registration.  
  •  All guests must wear masks or face coverings in order to enter the stadium and during the duration of the ceremony.
  • No food or beverages may be brought to the ceremony.
  • If waiting in line at the gate, guests/pairs of guests must maintain a six-foot distance from other guests.
  • Staff members will direct guests to their proper sections, rows, and seats. 
  •  Guests may not leave their assigned seats to take photos. 

DISMISSAL

  •  Graduates and guests will be dismissed in small groups.  
  • Graduates will be dismissed by section/row.  Graduates must leave the field through the gate by the  flagpole and exit the stadium through the bus parking lot gate.
  •  Guests will be dismissed by section/row.  Guests in upper rows will be directed to the rear of their  sections; guests in lower rows will be directed to the front. 

The graduation ceremonies will be broadcast live on Xfinity Channel 8.
