Dear Quincy Public Schools Staff, Students, Parents & Guardians,

This morning, I was informed about a party that was held over the weekend with approximately 70 high school students in attendance.  Photos were posted on social media and COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing and mask wearing were not observed.  After consultation with the Quincy Health Department, I am moving North Quincy High School to remote learning for the next two weeks and cancelling Athletics to protect the health and safety of the students and staff.  North Quincy High School was dismissed at 9:00 am and Quincy Health Department Commissioner Ruth Jones is asking that all students who attended the party make arrangements to be tested for COVID-19 (with a PCR test) and quarantine for 14 days.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently released updated guidance on the definition of a close contact for a positive COVID-19 cases:  anyone who was within 6 feet of a confirmed positive case (with or without a mask) for more than fifteen minutes cumulative in a 24-hour period in the two days prior to the onset of symptoms or two days prior to the test date for an asymptomatic positive case.  Quincy Public Schools’ ability to remain open under the hybrid learning model is dependent on all of us in the community adhering to guidelines and staying safe.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at or call me at 617-984-8701.

Kevin W. Mulvey, J.D.
