As a paraprofessional, you’ll play a vital role in supporting elementary and middle school students with moderate to severe disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex needs. With experience in classroom management, differentiated instruction, and student engagement, paraprofessionals are uniquely positioned to grow into teaching roles.

Your Role as a Paraprofessional:

  • Support classroom instruction under the supervision of a teacher
  • Assist students individually or in small and large groups to reinforce learning
  • Implement Behavior Support Plans and apply behavior de-escalation strategies
  • Provide assistance with daily routines, including feeding, toileting, and personal care
  • Monitor student progress and document academic and behavioral data
  • Use verbal and visual supports to enhance student engagement
  • Accompany students throughout the day, ensuring consistent support and supervision
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other service providers

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma AND completion of the Parapro assessment OR
  • Associate’s Degree (60 credits) OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree (120 credits)
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, resident, or hold a valid work visa

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a school setting
  • Understanding of behavior management techniques
  • Experience working with students with disabilities
