Dear Quincy Public Schools Community:

It is with a heavy heart that we are once again sharing a communication regarding an act of senseless hate and racism.  This past Saturday, a man fueled by white supremacist ideology opened fire in a busy supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing ten people and wounding several others.  Members of the Black community were the deliberate target in this violent tragedy.  We are united as a school community in condemning Saturday’s events and all acts of hate, racism, and violence.

When incidents such as these occur, we are all impacted and experience a range of feelings, including anger, sadness, hopelessness, frustration, and fear.  Discussing these frightening and traumatizing events with students is important.  We must help school-age children and teenagers understand how racial hatred and violence are promoted on social media platforms in order to counter that messaging.  Below are some resources from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) that may assist you when discussing this with students.

As always, our Student Support/Guidance Staff are available at each of our schools to meet with students during the school day and can be a resource to parents, guardians, and staff members as well.  Working together through our words and actions, Quincy Public Schools will continue to combat hate, racism, and violence and foster an inclusive community built on a foundation of respect, compassion, and understanding.
