Today, North Quincy High School had the privilege of hosting the Parris Island Marine Band for an afternoon performance, in which the Band, conducted by Warrant Officer Mardia Tompo and Staff Sargeant Michael Barnett, performed a variety of selections ranging from marches to contemporary soundtrack numbers.

This was a wonderful opportunity for our ROTC students and band students from both high schools, who attended the performance. The event was made even more special by the presence of Ms. Christine Cugini, Quincy’s Director of Veteran Affairs, and Ms. Mildred Cox, a former QPS employee and Marine Corps veteran who served during World War II and will turn 100 later this month. Their presence served to remind us of the deep connections between our community and the armed forces.

A major highlight was when WO Tompo turned the baton over to our very own Music Department Chair, Mr. Michael DeMarco, for the grand finale of "The Stars and Stripes Forever!"

After the performance, students had the opportunity to interact with the Band members, asking questions and learning more about the Marine Corps. This visit was part of the Band's tour of the Northeast, and we are grateful to the City of Quincy, the Marine Corps (specifically Sargeant Sweeney, our recruiter), and QPS staff for making it possible.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event a success!
